AMC Competition – A stepping stone to Ivy League schools (Instructor: Dr. Xiao Yilong/Mr. Wu Yadong)

The stereotypical impression on competitive Mathematics is the nerdy use of theorems, the memorization of formulae, and the non-stop cramming of practice papers. Often lost in communication is the explorative nature of Mathematics. This course is designed with every intention of conveying the fun in exploring Mathematics in the world around us, breathing life into black-and-white theories with the help of the renowned Singapore Mathematics Model Method.

The AMC Mathematics Competition is a mathematics activity for secondary school students around the world. It is divided into a series of competitions such as AMC8/10/12 and AIME. The results of the AMC competition are internationally accepted and are almost a must-have for students in Ivy League schools! At present, AMC has become the most trusted in the world. It is the most accurate mathematics subject test, and its results are recognized by many countries such as the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Students not older than 14.5 years or younger in Grade 8

AMC10/12 is equivalent to the general mathematics league level
Students not older than 17.5 years or younger in Grade 10
Students up to grade 12 who are 19.5 years or younger

AIME is an invitational tournament
Participated by students who meet the required scores in the AMC10 and AMC12 tests

What foundation does AMC8 need to win the award?

  1. To prepare for the AMC8 exam, you need to know: integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, proportions, number theory, daily geometry, area, volume, probability and statistics, logical reasoning and other key knowledge;
  2. About 60% of AMC8 tests primary school knowledge and 40% tests middle school knowledge. Therefore, you need to have at least a G6 foundation to participate. If you want to achieve good results, you also need to have some knowledge of secondary school;
  3. Memorize at least 300 mathematics-related vocabulary words, and be proficient in reading and translating long English sentences.
  4. Target: For first-time participants and below G7, 15 points are required to pass; for non-first-time participants/senior students, it is recommended to score at least 19+; to get into the top 1% in the world, you need 22 points or more.
